– Today, around 5 p.m., the command post of the municipal commander of the State Fire Service in Piotrków Trybunalski received a report regarding a fire in one of the plants that deals with waste segregation. Currently, the fire covers approximately 5 to 6 thousand square meters – said Brigadier Wojciech Pawlikowski, press officer of the municipal commander of the State Fire Service in Piotrków, on TVN24 around 7 p.m. on TVN24. He added that the fire occurred in the southern part of the city, at the intersection of Wolska and Żelazna streets.
He specified that the landfill mainly holds plastics and paper.

The fire does not spread
There are 14 units of the State Fire Service and Volunteer Fire Brigades from Piotrków County operating on site. Brigadier Pawlikowski said that the provincial commander of the State Fire Service in Łódź was also asked to provide additional forces and resources from outside the Piotrkowski district. Among other things, a tanker is scheduled to arrive on site.
There is no information about any injured people. Preliminary information shows that there were no employees at the plant, except security.
After 9 p.m., firefighters announced that the fire was under control. – The fire is localized, which in firefighting nomenclature means that it is not spreading. We can see tongues of fire inside the hall all the time, there are still sparks there, quite intense in some places. Unfortunately, this is due to the fact that firefighters will have to dismantle part of the hall walls to reach these places. They will not enter the interior through the current openings for security reasons, said TVN24 reporter Piotr Borowski.
The firefighting operation is difficult and may last until morning.
The Government Security Center issued an alert for residents: “Do not approach the fire site within a radius of 500 m. Close the windows.”
A special chemical unit was dispatched to the site, which arrived in the area with a specialized vehicle and examined the air condition. – This is important information that there is no threat to residents at the moment and they can rest assured – TVN24 reporter Piotr Borowski said after 9 p.m.
It is not yet known what caused the fire or the extent of the damage.
