The information was provided by Radio Lublin, Piotr Szczepanik’s funeral ceremonies will take place in Lublin and Warsaw on August 31. The funeral service will be celebrated by Archbishop Stanisław Budzik, Archbishop of Lublin, in the Lublin Cathedral at 2 p.m. Piotr Szczepanik will be buried in Powązki in Warsaw.
“Goniąc Kormorany”, “Yellow Calendars”, “Kochać”, “Never Again” are pieces known all over Poland. Piotr Szczepanik launched ballads that can now be defined as the standards of Polish song.
– I did not make any treatments, nor did I try hard to become popular. Actually, it was my later life, singing and the fact that the songs performed by me became hits, it was decided by the radio listeners – mentioned Piotr Szczepanik in one of the interviews.
Singer, guitarist, actor – Piotr Szczepanik was born on February 14, 1942. After graduating from high school, he collaborated with the Lublin Puppet and Actor Theater. Then he studied art history at the Catholic University of Lublin. He made his debut at the Student Song Festival in Krakow in 1963. In the 1960s and 1970s, with Bohdan Łazuka and Jacek Fedorowicz, he ran the stage and cabaret program “Let’s Support One Another”.
Also in the 1970s, Piotr Szczepanik began to deal with poetry. He performed alone, with a guitar. He gave concerts in Poland and, among others, in the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and many countries in Europe.
In the 1980s, Szczepanik devoted himself to opposition activities. He was, inter alia, co-organizer of the Real Song Festival in 1981. During martial law, he organized an independent, underground music scene.
