Piontkovsky recalled that over the past week there had been a whole series of personal insults that the head of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, rewarded General Valery Gerasimov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
“This is an unprecedented attack on the Russian military elite. And it could not have started without Putin’s filing. Of course, the attack arose on his initiative. Because this situation arises in any fascist state when it is defeated. The question arises: who is to blame – the Fuhrer or generals? Hitler had the same problem, Stalin had the same problem at the beginning of the war, when the Soviet Union suffered a colossal defeat. And they always decided that the generals were to blame, not the Fuhrer. So Putin turned off the attack on the generals, but, apparently , Prigozhin got into the role so much that he began to show in his behavior the features inherent in the commander-in-chief, the first person in the country. Everyone noticed his repeated appeals to President Zelensky, his assessment of the Ukrainian army was radically different from Russian propaganda. He positions himself as almost such a reasonable leader of the Russian state who is fighting a worthy adversary and he has something to talk about with a worthy adversary. the generals took advantage of this: they explained to Putin that Prigozhin, whom he had unleashed, was already beginning to threaten not only them, but also Putin himself. Piontkovsky believes that by such personnel reshuffles, the staff generals won an apparatus victory not only over Prigozhin, but also over Putin himself.

Recall that on January 11, the main leaders of the war were replaced in Russia.
