Pioneering Vaccines in Colombia: Acquiring and Administering Vaccines for Vulnerable Population

One of the main concerns that Colombia initially had was how to acquire the necessary vaccines for the vulnerable population, along with the booster dose that each person would need according to their age. After negotiations, batches of vaccines from different laboratories began to arrive in the country, where people attended en masse to apply their doses.

However, seeing that the cases of covid-19 were declining in the country, part of the population stopped attending to complete their vaccination schedule, with large quantities of doses for its application.

Pioneering vaccines in Colombia

Codagenix is ​​one of the additional formulas that are being worked on to overcome covid-19 whose main characteristic consists of its mode of application, which is through the nostrils. From this reference, more than 190 doses have been applied in Bogotá, Tunja and Villavicencio.

On the other hand, Medigen is another of the vaccines that the government has been preparing with the WHO alliance, which is applied by injection. More than 1,300 of this model have been applied in Bogotá and the departments of Boyacá, Quindío, Tolima and Valle del Cauca.

The implementation of this scientific collaboration has been closely observed by the Pan American Health Organization, which has informed that in the nation “the study was carried out in Cali, Armenia, Ibagué, Tunja, Duitama, Villavicencio and Bogotá, where Colombians and migrants agreed to be vaccinated voluntarily and attend the necessary follow-ups to evaluate the effectiveness of the vaccines under study. The research team states that the study will conclude in March 2024, when all the participants in this global initiative have been followed for one year. By then, global and national publications will be made of the results found”.
