Pink Walk: Empowering Breast Cancer Survivors and Raising Awareness for Early Detection

For this first pink walk, the walk to the Amour room is filled with obviously… pink t-shirts. Ludivine wears one. She had breast cancer in 2021 and beat it. Today, she has become the face of a so-called post-operative lingerie brand, so for her, this walk is special. “It’s a source of pride to say that we are here today, to have overcome this and to show that sick people can get through it” she says.

In 2018, more than 12,000 women died to breast cancer and every year, there are more than 60,000 affected by the disease. However, today, one in two of them does not get tested. “I was touched at 39 years old and in front of me, I had people who were 23 years old. So I encourage all women to feel themselves as soon as possible, it takes five minutes and it can save life for many beautiful years” adds Ludivine.

And if breast cancer is the first female cancerit can also affect men. “There is no age and no gender. My partner had breast cancer. We discovered it late so we had to operate urgently,” portrays Annie.

A pink village for better information

At the end of the walk, participants are brought into the Ocean Space hall. Inside, 25 stands to raise awareness, warn and support participants and the people who run the counters are more than in demand. “It’s very encouraging because we see that women are affected by this issue.” explains Thomas Grellety, medical oncologist at the Center Hospitalier de la Côte Basque. During this day, the doctor runs a stand where he explains the correct actions for self-examination. “If you participate in early detection yourself by feeling yourself, cancer may be found earlier. And if we find it early, we’ll cure it. In 80% of cases” relate-t-il.

This is one of the goals of this pink morning, prevention before cure, but the other is to raise funds. All profits linked to registrations will be donated to the league against cancer 64, i.e. more than €5,000.
