Pink to the lips to fight cancer in Draguignan

Each year, one in eight women is affected by breast cancer. And nearly 12,000 of them die.

“We do not know if this figure has increased this year. But it is true that the Covid has slowed down all the prevention processes. It has also prevented access to care, while breast cancer can be treated if it is taken in time. ” Sébastien Guillen, health manager, is sorry.

To raise awareness among women, the day for the fight against the disease is being extended. As of Thursday, the Dracénois are invited to put on their most beautiful pink sweater to go to Place René-Cassin.

There, Gym after cancer, Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur cancer screening and the League against cancer will raise awareness among women from 3 p.m., in partnership with five other structures.

However, due to the health crisis, there will be no demonstration this year. Nor a check given to associations since the traditional evening – the entry fee of which was donated to one of them – was canceled.

Colorful day

On the other hand, the pink walk will not modify its circuit, nor its schedule. Departing from the square at 5.30 pm, it will join Boulevard Max-Dormoy, running alongside the tourist office, passing notably through Rue de Trans which should also be “dressed” in pink.

For this event, the transiane association Au Within de la rémission has specially sewn masks of the same color to distribute them just before the walk.

Then, an hour later, visitors will be able to discover a large fresco. This will be produced from 9 a.m. by the artist Harold Maka.

The Dracénois specialized in street art will paint a canvas 5m long and 1.30m high, on the theme. The work will be exhibited subsequently in a location in the city which remains to be determined.

At the end of the afternoon, at 6.30 p.m., a conference will be given by gynecologists Vanessa Mathieu and Vincent Brard, oncologist Jean-Louis Wendling and two nurses at the Maison des sports et de la jeunesse.

Finally, Dracénois will be able to admire the Clock Tower which, since the beginning of the month, has been adorned with rose every night in support of victims of breast cancer.
