Pink October: breast cancer screening and treatment

Pink October and Red September are in the spotlight in this program dedicated to cancer prevention. We discuss screening for breast cancer and blood cancers, with testimonials and local initiatives.

Red September and blood cancer awareness

Mylène David, representative of the association Living with an NMPtakes stock of Red September, a campaign dedicated to raising awareness of myeloproliferative neoplasia. This disease, a chronic blood cancer, remains little known despite the 45,000 new cases annually in France. The September event is gaining visibility with illuminated buildings and marches in support, but the need for research is glaring because no curative treatment exists to date.

Pink October and the mobilization against breast cancer

With Pink October, breast cancer prevention is at the heart of the news. Marie-Paul, a patient currently in treatment, testifies to the importance of early detection, having detected a lesion thanks to a routine mammogram. Doctor Élise Champeaux-Orange, onco-radiotherapist, recalls that screening is accessible from the age of 50, but recommends starting earlier and highlights the current low participation rate. The Cancer League and the Loiret notaries are involved in this campaign, in particular by collecting donations to support research and supportive oncological care.

An awareness day is planned for this Saturday, October 5 at the Orléans University Hospital. And a conference on Thursday October 10 at 8 p.m. at Alliage d’Olivet.
