Pink October: blood donation “For them”

The National Center for Blood Services (CENSSA) continues working to ensure the supply of blood and blood components for patients who depend on these vital resources. The “For them” campaign is promoted within the framework of Pink October, in order to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, mainly to provide therapeutic support to those people who were diagnosed with breast cancer.

The donation day took place in the auditorium of the headquarters of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Welfare and was addressed to the officials of the health portfolio. Donors must be between 18 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50 kg and be healthy, including those with certain medical conditions such as hypertension and controlled diabetes.

“Every day, without feeling, without realizing it, between 4.5 to 5 liters of blood is circulating within our body, and the 10% that is donated can help save the lives of many of our mothers, sisters or grandmothers who today,” said Dr. Elsi Vargas de Salinas, director of the National Blood Services Center – CENSSA.

Let’s make prevention a tradition

Within the framework of the “Pink October” campaign, the Ministry of Health intensifies its awareness-raising efforts, with the motto “Let’s make prevention a tradition.” This campaign not only promotes mammograms, but also breast self-examination as a common practice that can help identify any suspicious changes. Self-examination is especially important in women under 40 years of age, since, although the risk is lower in this age group, 10% of breast cancer cases occur in young women.

The “Pink October” campaign not only seeks to raise awareness about breast cancer prevention, but also to ensure that every woman in Paraguay has access to a timely diagnosis.
