Stating that he was speaking for “the millions who don’t have a voice,” Waters said, “Thank you for listening to us today; we are the many [cilvēki], who do not profit from the war industry. We are not raising our sons and daughters to be your cannon fodder. We believe that the only reasonable course of action at this time is to call for an immediate ceasefire in Ukraine. Without any “ifs”, without any “buts”, without any “ands”. No more lives of Ukrainians or Russians should be wasted – they are all valuable in our eyes.”

Since Russia’s February 24, 2022 invasion of Ukraine, 78-year-old Waters has made statements supporting Russia’s position. For example, in August of last year, he accused US President Joe Biden of “warmongering” and called Biden a “war criminal”, as well as mocking NATO for “pushing to Russia’s border”.
