President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) states the online loan industry (pinjol) has disbursed loans amounting to Rp128.7 trillion as of September 2020. That figure is up 113 percent compared to September 2019.
Jokowi stated that there were 89 loan managers registered with the Financial Services Authority (OJK). They contributed Rp9.87 trillion in financial service transactions.
“Then Rp. 15.5 trillion was distributed to the organization financial technology equity crowdfunding licensed. This is an extraordinary development, “said Jokowi at the 2020 National Fintech Week, Wednesday (11/11).
Even though it is already high, Jokowi stated that the government still has quite a challenging homework in developing digital technology in the financial sector. This is because Indonesia’s financial inclusion index is only 76 percent.
“The figure is lower than several other countries in ASEAN,” added Jokowi.
He gave an example of the financial inclusion index in Singapore at 98 percent, Malaysia 85 percent, and Thailand 82 percent. This proves that the number of people who become customers or users of financial services in Indonesia is still much lower than other countries in ASEAN.
Meanwhile, the level of digital financial literacy in Indonesia is still low at 35.5 percent. Then, only 31.26 percent of people have ever used digital financial services.
“There are still many people who use informal financial services,” said Jokowi.
For this reason, he hopes that all digital financial sector companies will innovate to attract the public’s interest in using digital financial services. Jokowi asked the lending business actors not only to channel financing and online payments, but also to contribute to increasing digital financial literacy in Indonesia.
“It ‘s innovative financial technology (Pinjol) must also develop itself continuously to carry out the aggregator function, credit scoring, and provide services equity crowd funding, “explained Jokowi.
