Pininfarina Leggenda is as desirable as a real classic

Despite the fact that for the last 91 years Carrozzeria Pininfarina has designed and built large numbers of many of the most admired cars on the planet, owning one of their classics is not easy. Not for lack of inventory, Pininfarina designed and built bodies for Rolls-Royce, Hispano Suiza, Isotta Frasccini, Cadillac, Alfa Romeo and Fiat among other manufacturers, and has put its signature on such memorable cars as the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider, the Cisitalia 202, and in every one of the street Ferraris built between 1951 and 2017, with the exception of the Dino 308 GT4 from 1973 and the LaFerrari presented in 2013. The problem is that they are very expensive cars to buy and maintain, especially the classics.

The solution? A driving simulator that provides the same feeling of driving an Italian classic without the hassle and expense of maintaining it, not to mention not having to breathe the smoke from the vehicle’s engine, or the dust that is raised on the roads when operating it.

And that is precisely what Pininfarina brings us with its Leggenda driving simulator, an impeccably designed adult toy, whose main part is a roofless body that replicates that of the Cisitalia 202 from 1946. This new creation by the Italian house solves almost all of them. the problems posed by owning an Italian classic, minus the price.

The bodywork is supported by movement actuators from the Swiss firm Racing Unleashed, which replicate the reactions and movements that the 202 would do on the Assetto Corsa track. The driver’s hands rest on a wooden Nardi steering wheel, which would feel at home behind the firewall of a Mercedes-Benz W113, one of the great European classics that Pininfarina wanted but couldn’t design, and a classic-looking gear stick. , while the feet operate a trio of conventional pedals.

The pilot’s view is projected onto a 46-inch wraparound screen or virtual reality headset. Simulator price includes full 3D scan and recreation of buyer’s favorite video game vehicle. The Leggenda simulator also includes a three-year membership included in The eClassic Club, a social media app for the owners of these platforms described as an “online community for collector car enthusiasts within which informal group drives, races or training sessions are held in addition to driver training.”

The members of the The eClassic Club They will probably become very close friends as there will only be nine of them, which is exactly the number of Leggenda simulators that Pininfarina plans to build.

The first of the nine Pininfarina Leggenda simulators will be auctioned without reservation on September 17 por RM Sotheby’s, in the upscale Swiss winter resort of St. Moritz and is predicted to fetch a price tag of $ 130,000 to $ 160,000, which The Drive says is what a pro racing simulator costs, but none of those professional gadgets will feature such a design. beautiful like the one in Leggenda. And isn’t that exactly the point of having one of them?
