Pilots salary airlines from the United States (US) United Airlines will increase by 34.5% – 40.2%. The salary increase agreement was made after the airline met with representatives of the US pilots union.
“Pilots will get a 34.5 – 40.2% cumulative pay increase on the new four-year contract,” the US Airline Pilots Association (ALPA) said.
Previously, United had offered a 14.5% increase in salary for its pilots. However, the airline’s pilots rejected the offer on the grounds that the number of active pilots in the US is currently not too many.
In fact, according to analysts from Jefferies, the US currently has a shortage of around 10,000 pilot workers. This supply-demand gap is projected to last through 2027.
For this reason, active pilots are currently asking for a raise in their salary, more than what the airline had previously offered. After going through various meetings, it was finally agreed to increase the pilot’s salary.
“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with ALPA. The four-year agreement, once the contract is finalized, will provide us with a meaningful increase in pay and an improvement in the quality of life of our pilots while putting the airline on track to achieve the tremendous potential of our United Next strategy,” said United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby.
As additional information, United is not the first airline to have to increase the salaries of their pilots due to the current pilot workforce crisis. Previously a number of other airlines had agreed to increase the salaries of their pilots with sizable offers.
One of them is Delta Airlines, which has renewed its pilots’ work contracts for the next 4 years. In this new contract agreement, Delta will increase the salaries of all its pilots with a total value of US$ 7 billion or Rp. 105 trillion (exchange rate of Rp. 15,000/US dollar).
