The scheme foresees that those who see their working hours reduced by a fifth become at the same time a mentor of a trainee (young person, young adult or job seeker) who is undergoing training at a local level.
“Those who started at a young age and are feeling their age should be able to work less. This benefits the health and well-being of the employee, but also the efficiency of services,” says local government minister Christophe Collignon (PS ). Jobs that qualify for such a scheme, he says, are, for example, cleaners, road workers, childcare workers and gardeners.
The pilot project will start in January 2023 and has a budget of €4.35 million.
In the context of the federal government’s labor agreement, employers have been able to offer their employees to do full-time work in four days from just a few weeks ago. Unlike the Walloon pilot project, it is therefore not a question of a reduction in total working time.
