“Pilot Julio Poch Acquitted after 8 Years in Prison over Junta Crimes Suspicions”

According to Geert-Jan Knoops, the verdict is ‘a complete rehabilitation’ for Poch and he is not being blamed for anything. It is ‘impossible that Poch can be blamed’, according to him in the verdict. “So it goes way beyond a lack of evidence.”

Poch was arrested in September 2009 in Valencia, Spain, before being extradited from Spain to Argentina. This happened after the Netherlands had provided information to Spain about Poch’s flight to Spain. The Netherlands itself saw no chance to extradite Poch, because he also has Dutch nationality.

In his former homeland, the Transavia pilot was imprisoned for eight years on suspicion of crimes committed during the junta’s rule. After his acquittal by the court, Poch was able to return to the Netherlands, although the Argentinian judiciary did appeal.
