“Pilot disaster flight Pakistan concealed that his landing gear was not working” NOW

The pilot of the Pakistani passenger plane that crashed in Karachi on May 22, told air traffic control that his landing gear was not working. The Pakistani authorities said that on Thursday. 97 people died in the disaster.

The plane crashed in a residential area next to the airport after a failed landing attempt. At that time, the pilot had just started a second landing attempt. Two occupants of the aircraft survived the disaster.

Pakistani Civil Aviation Minister Ghulam Sarwar Khan told journalists on Thursday that runway tracks clearly show that the plane hit the ground three times during the first attempted landing.

“The pilot never announced that his landing gear would not open. He hit the ground haphazardly three times with the aircraft’s engines,” said Khan. “He was not flying at the correct height. The control tower told him: ‘You are not at the required height, fly lower’.” According to the minister, the pilot replied: “I can do it.” Khan did not tell how he got the conversation information.

French team examines flight data

The voice recorder and black box from the cockpit of Pakistan Airlines Airbus A320 have been recovered and will be examined in a laboratory of the aviation authorities in France. They are involved because the fifteen-year-old device was designed in that country.

The two motors of the device receive special attention from the researchers. The pilot reportedly reported that both had failed after his first attempted landing.
