Pilgrims stormed the house of Petar Dunov, which is located at 66 Opalchenska Street in the capital.
It looks like a construction site at the moment, but that doesn’t stop pilgrims coming here from near and far. Some of them carried old newspapers with the news that the restoration of the museum had finally started. A coordinator of the renovation says that people come to make sure with their own eyes that this is really a fact.
There were also those who arrived simply to stand and be silent in this holy place as in a temple. A woman entered and, crying, began to hug and kiss the wooden columns. Then she went to the Teacher’s room and looked through the missing window, taken for restoration, as if it was there because the founder of the World White Brotherhood himself looked at the sun through it at the dawn of the 20th century, writes the Telegraph.

“The porter of the National Polytechnic Museum next door says with good sense that he has already become a tour guide. Because people are constantly coming and asking where Danov’s house is. But let’s hope that since she is a unifier of Bulgarians, we will become even better and our country will already go on a better path”, commented lawyer Ruska Ducheva to “Telegraph”. She is engaged in the restoration of the museum by the “White Brotherhood” society. He said that intensive repairs of the roof and walls are currently underway, as well as a parallel restoration of furniture in Petar Danov’s house.

“The idea is to make the place as close as possible to the historical sources that we have such as data and photos. A little while ago I had a meeting with an architect restorer who will work on restoring the four straw chairs on which the Master and his followers sat. We have a stool as a sample,” Duceva informed. The fountain in the yard, from which the Bulgarian drank with followers all over the world, is already flowing.
In coordination with the Ministry of Culture, serious repairs to the roof, replacement of beams, installation of waterproofing, strengthening of the walls are currently underway.
“Our original idea was to repair only the roof. But it turned out that the structure of the house was very compromised. Therefore, the walls and foundations must first be strengthened with modern approaches and materials. However, the construction dates from 1882-1884. Then the external circumstances were different, while now the noise waves and vibrations from the nearby boulevard are around the clock, which is slowly destroying this shrine. In reality, everything about its revival is being done in parallel, since in July many people are planning to come here – then we will celebrate the 160th anniversary of the birth of Petar Danov”, explained Duceva, who is at the site almost every day.
Personal belongings
He says that when everything is ready the White Brotherhood Society will provide some of the Master’s personal belongings to be displayed for the first time for visitors. Artifacts of leader Georgi Dimitrov will probably be exhibited by the Bulgarian Anti-Fascist Union.
Danov lived in this boarding house for two whole decades – from 1905 to 1926. It was here that he began his first talks. It is known that he shared the property together with the hero of the Leipzig trial – Dimitrov. It was because of the communist leader that in 1972 the whole house was declared a cultural monument of national importance, but soon after that it was gradually neglected and almost fell into ruin.
A charity concert was organized on March 30. From the collected BGN 3,500, everything goes to the restoration of the museum in the form of materials and workers’ wages, Ruska Ducheva also informed.
