Pilgrimage: The ‘Night of the stars’ is kept on the Camino de Santiago de Palencia | Radio Palencia | Present

Although the activities scheduled this year around the Santiago’s road have suffered a considerable cut, the Association of Friends of the Camino de Santiago de Palencia is still determined not to close the Jacobean route and so for this weekend, specifically this Saturday, August 8, has programmed an activity, which is already a classic, in the Jacobean itinerary, as is the well-known “Night of the stars” in the starting from the main square of Carrión at 11:00 p.m. they travel the Jacobean itinerary until the call “Source of the hospitalejo” where there was a famous pilgrim hospital during the Middle Ages and that today still preserves a fountain, which was once a medicinal water, although its consumption is not currently recommended because it is not properly treated.

This itinerary goes through what was, in Roman times, the one known as Via Aquitana that ran between Bordeaux (France) and Astorga, and later used by medieval pilgrims, of which, fortunately, this itinerary is preserved, very suitable for travel these lands away from the roads and towns, which allows a vision of the Perseids on these dates close to the festival of San Lorenzo.

Those who choose to carry out this night walk-pilgrimage, must comply with some minimum recommendations such as wearing reflective clothing and the mandatory use of a mask at all times. This year, in addition to the pandemic, the aid stations that were offered during the tour have been suspended, as well as the popular garlic soups with which the activity was ended since the establishments have the obligation to close before the foreseeable end of this march-pilgrimage.
