MAKASSAR, KOMPAS.com – Pilgrim from Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel) Mira Hayati admits that she has abandoned her intention to resell the 1 kilogram (Kg) of gold she bought in the holy land.
Even though at first, he thought the 1 kg of gold he bought in Saudi Arabia would be resold.
“There is a lot of confusion about news like that. At first I wanted to be like that (to resell) but I said there was no need,” said Mira Hayati to the media when met at her residence in the Pasar Daya Ruko Complex, Biringkanaya District, Makassar, Tuesday (18/7/ 2023).

He explained that he abandoned his intention to resell his gold because he did not want to be seen as afraid of dealing with Customs or afraid to pay taxes.
“Because people think we want to avoid Customs, so as good Indonesian citizens we have to be gentlemen and brave. So thank God I didn’t sell (1 kg of gold) and bring it back to Indonesia,” he said.
The owner of the beauty product said that the 1 kg of gold purchased was in the form of jewelry, from necklaces to rings
“There are bracelets, necklaces, rings, basically souvenirs that I brought about 1 kg,” he concluded.
He also admitted paying taxes to Customs when he arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Cengkareng, Tangerang, Banten, Thursday (13/7/2023).
“The price for this (1 kilogram of gold) is Rp. 800 million, not up to Rp. 900 million. The tax is Rp. 278 million,” he said.
Initially, said Mira, the Customs asked for Rp. 550 million, but because it was considered too heavy, she also negotiated with the Customs.
“So I said why don’t I have to pay half the price again, so we negotiated until the deal was made. I was told to pay Rp. 278 million and then I could take the goods because yesterday everything (goods) was dismantled,” he said.
