Pilar Sánchez Vicente’s first novel is reissued 20 years later | BE Gijón | Today for Today Gijón

It is not the first novel that the Asturian publisher Orpheus Ediciones Clandestinas recovers from the author from Gijón. In fact, this is the third title they reissue. Before ‘Comadres’ were ‘Gontrodo, the daughter of the Moon’ and ‘Fireflies in memory’. They are all part of the collection editorial Dedicated PSV to recover all the discontinued work of the author gijonesa.

‘Comadres’ they also have the added value of being the Pilar Sánchez Vicente’s first novel. A story that saw the editorial light two decades ago and that the author, as stated in SER Gijón, thought it would be its literary culmination. Sánchez Vicente had written articles and other formats literary but never a novel, so he thought that he would not repeat experience, however, he was wrong. Since then there are already six powerful novels that Asturian has written. The latest “Wandering Women” (2018) of great commercial success.

‘Comadres’, like his other works, has great genre content with protagonists who defend their identity, the right to be responsible for their future freely and who participate in a brotherhood between women; in this, in particular, the celebration of Comadres has an important role in the narrative.

Pilar Sánchez Vicente was born in Gijón in 1961. A historian by training, she has worked in the autonomous administration since 1986. She received the ‘Adolfo Posada’ award for Innovative Initiatives in Administration in 2005. Currently she performs functions as archivist of the Superior Court of Justice of Asturias. She was a screenwriter and presenter on Televisión Española and Canal Internacional de TVE. She is the author of articles and publications related to History, women, youth and tourism.

‘Comadres’ (2001) was his first novel. Then came “Gontrodo, the daughter of the Moon” (2004), “The goddess against Rome” (2008), “Operation Dracula” (2010) and “Fireflies in Memory” (2013). She is also the author of the ‘Brief history of Asturias’ (2006). Her latest editorial success is ‘Wandering Women’ (2018). In 2016, the L’Arribada Cultural Association awarded her the ‘Timón Award’, for the best Asturian writer in Spanish, in recognition of her literary career. Year 2019, the Les Comadres Feminist Gathering gave him recognition as ‘Comadre de Oro Especial’ for feminist and comadre and in consideration of the protagonists of his novels.
