55-year-old pig breeder Patrick M. from Lammekesstraat in Wontergem (Deinze) was crushed on Wednesday afternoon around 4:30 PM between a heavy cover plate that he moved with his forklift truck and a wall.

Despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services, including the fire brigades of Aarsele and Deinze, the man, who is the business manager, could no longer be saved. The police and the public prosecutor’s office made the necessary observations. The Lammekesstraat runs from Tieltsesteenweg in Wontergem to the border with Aarsele (Tielt).
According to the first findings, it concerns a work accident when performing a traditional job for the farmer and pig farmer. The man was moving heavy plates weighing more than 1,000 kilos with his forklift to seal a feed pit. During a maneuver, one of those planks tilted and the farmer was squashed between the plate and a wall. Patrick M. is well known in the region.
