Pietro Maso in 2019 received citizenship income

Pietro Maso, that in 1991 in Montecchia di Crosara (Verona) he killed his parents with bars, he received the citizenship income, the subsidy reserved by the State to those who earn less than 9,360 euros per year. The news was published by the weekly Today, on newsstands from Thursday (tomorrow, ed). The list in which Maso appears, explains a source to the weekly, dates back to the end of 2019: today, the subsidy could be suspended. But until a few months ago Meat received the check. According to his lawyer Marco De Giorgio, the subsidy, if granted in the past, may have been suspended due to the seriousness of his legal case. De Giorgio limits himself to underlining that, because he is prosecuted criminally, the bad faith of his client should be demonstrated that, on the other hand, he may not have been aware of the limitations on the granting of income (which only after, with sample checks, could knowing that it wasn’t up to him).

What the law says

According to Penal Code, the only convicted who are not entitled to pensions, checks and salaries from the state are – in fact – those who have a criminal record for crimes related to organized crime, terrorism or fraud against the state, and Maso does not fall into any of these categories. Yet this would not apply to a conviction issued more than ten years earlier, as in his case. Because of gravity of the crime , however, banned from public offices (perpetually, as confirmed by his lawyer Marco De Giorgio).

The murder of the parents

Aided by three friends, on April 17, 1991, Maso killed both of his parents, Antonio Maso and Mariarosa Tessari. The goal was to appropriate his share of the inheritance. He was arrested on April 19, 1991 and then sentenced to thirty years in prison, with the recognition of mental illness at the time of the fact. After spending 22 as a prisoner, he was released in 2013.

The case had also been discussed in recent months Raimondo Etro, former red brigatist sentenced in 1999 to 20 years and 6 months in prison for the massacre in via Fani, the kidnapping of Aldo Moro and the killing of judge Palma. He too had applied for citizenship income, then revoked by INPS.
