Pieter Timmers placed seventh in the 100-m freestyle on Matchday 2 of the International Swimming League’s fourth game on Tuesday in Budapest in the short course. The Olympic vice-champion, member of the New York Breakers, set a time of 47.46, he who has a Belgian record of 46.54.
The race was won in 45.94 by the American Zach Apple (DC Trident), who beat his compatriot Caeleb Dressel (46.42), world champion in both long and short course distance.
Timmers then took fourth place with the New Tork Breakers in the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay in 3: 19.67, 2.07 behind the race-winning DC Trident.
On Monday, Pieter Timmers finished fourth in the men’s 4x100m freestyle and 4x100m medley relays.
This fourth game was won by the Cali Condors with 610.5 points. The New York Breakers finished third with 394 points.
Timmers, 32, performs in the International Swimming League, a multi-week team swimming competition in Budapest, the last outing of his professional career.
Timmers and the other Belgian in this tournament, Valentine Dumont, will be back in the Duna Arena basin on Sunday and Monday for the sixth four-way game. The New York Breakers and the Aqua Centurions, the teams of the two Belgians, are in fact not involved in the fifth match, scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
