“My dear favorite” is ‘s second novel Marieke Lucas Rijneveld It tells the story of a 49-year-old vet who takes over a 14-year-old girl and obsessively wants to possess it. “An uncomfortable story that sucks the reader into a breathtaking monologue through its virtuoso language,” says the jury. He chose van Rijneveld’s novel from dozens of fiction and non-fiction books, “a born writer” and “one of those unique, rich voices that rise above the others, in a Dutch that glitters and glows, flows and drives unstoppably, earthly and sensory, descriptive and contemplative, profound yet light,” read chairwoman Brigitte Raskin from the jury report.
