As usual, Pierre Samot was in his thirty-one, dressed in a white suit, to receive his title of honorary mayor, after 29 years, 8 months and 8 days of governance at the town hall of Lamentin.
On November 20, 2018, the first magistrate decided to hand over to David Zobda, then 1st deputy of the city, but he always kept an eye on municipal affairs as a simple adviser.
“He represents one of the last giants of Martinican politics”!

According to the definition of the general code of local authorities, honorary status is “an honorary distinction which corresponds to the legitimate desire to express the gratitude of the Nation to those who have given the best of themselves in the service of their fellow citizens in a spirit of citizenship and volunteering”.
During all these years, he carried out his mandates with great availability, mobilization and dedication.
Driven by an unwavering desire to serve the general interest, concerned with development, respectful of the environment and the quality of life, constantly insisting on openness to others, in particular to the countries of the Caribbean.
In this area, we can cite the twinning since 1996 with the city of Santiago de Cuba and the cooperation since 2009 with the City of Carrefour in Haiti.
86 years old since August 31, 2020, Pierre Samot, former artisan mason, building contractor and founder of the “Bâtir le Pays Martinique” movement in 1998, promised the assistance to remain attentive to the management of the city of Lamentin, as long as health allows it.
