Due to equipment failure in its laboratory, the Pierre-Le Gardeur hospital was forced to throw away 1,700 blood tests.

According to what the Journal de Montréal reports, the samples concerned follow-ups for people with diabetes. This number is the equivalent of one week of laboratory testing.

The incident occurred on June 28. It would be a broken device used for hemoglobin assay analyses. Repairs were made to the device a few days later.

In an interview with the Journal, the spokesperson for the Alliance of Professional and Technical Personnel in Health and Social Services, Martin Lavigne, denounced the situation, mentioning that 1,700 users will not have follow-up with their doctor and who will have to return to the hospital for a second blood test.
