Pierre Guthrie “If you think about the missed points in F1, you’ll get depressed”[F1-Gate.com]

Pierre Gasly admits he does not want to look back on missed points scoring opportunities in 2022 to protect his mental health in F1.

2022 was a difficult season for Pierre Gasly and Scuderia AlphaTauri, slipping from 6th in the 2021 Constructors’ Championship to 9th in 2022.

In addition, Pierre Gasly dropped from 9th place in the previous year’s drivers’ standings to 14th in 2022.

As well as regularly battling for a points finish, Pierre Gasly suffered a penalty, earning 10 penalty points which will remain until the end of May 2023 when he will make his debut with the Alpine F1 team. An F1 driver will be suspended for one race if he achieves 12 penalty points within 12 months.

But despite the ups and downs of 2022, Gasly says he doesn’t want to spend too much time reporting missed opportunities.

“Looking back at the 22 races, I think it’s easy to spot the missing points,” Gasly told RacingNews365.com.

“But for our mental health in Formula 1, we’ve learned that it’s best not to look back at all the points we missed, otherwise we’ll get depressed very quickly.”

However, Pierre Gasly admits things could have improved for AlphaTauri after what proved to be a difficult year.

“I think we could have done a better job,” Gasly continued.

“Obviously 2022 has been a very difficult year for us. We’ve made some mistakes on our side and some bad luck, but it’s been a very challenging year.”

Pierre Gasly left the team after six years to become Esteban Ocon’s partner at Alpine F1 Team in 2023, with Gasly replaced by Nick de Vries and Yuki Tsunoda’s teammate Alpha.
