On the international stage of WTM il Piedmont presents itself in London to attract investments and present its tourist offer.
The mission aims to promote the local ecosystem for the benefit of attracting quality foreign investments and tourism on the occasion of Wtm, one of the two most important trade fairs in the sector together with ITB Berlin.
During the mission the details of “The 50Best Restaurants Award”, the competition that every year identifies the 50 best chefs in the world and which will take place in Turin and Piedmont in 2025.
The Piedmontese delegation composed of Piedmont Region, City of Turin, Turin Chamber of Commerce, Unioncamere Piemonte, Ceipiemonte, VisitPiemonte, the Piedmont ATLs including Turismo Torino and the Consortium of the Savoy Royal Palaces has strung together a series of targeted appointments with potential partners with the aim of presenting the area’s investment opportunities to companies and entities operating in the UK.
In particular, on Monday morning, 8 C-Level executives from companies of primary importance in the ability to carry out investment projects abroad were involved by the Financial Times for a meeting with Piedmontese institutions which will present the competitive advantages of the region to foreign companies and the role of regional institutions in their support and accompaniment also thanks to and structures such as the Attraction Team. Among others, the top management of Space Solar, Hybrid Air Vehicles, Amazon, Quantum Propulsion Technologies, Evolito, Aspia Space, Infogrid, Renesas Electronics, Graphcore will be present.
Financial Times also presented a preview of an in-depth report on the Piedmontese ecosystem, the result of interviews carried out at the beginning of October, which will be published by its newspaper specialized in foreign direct investments (fDi Intelligence) in December 2024.
In recent years, Piedmont has become an attractive destination for foreign investors: this is also demonstrated by the award received by the Financial Times as the sixth region in Europe with the best investment attraction strategy in 2024. Piedmont is also the second region in Italy by number of people employed by foreign multinationals and by value added by multinational industrial companies (source TEHA Ambrosetti).
From 5 to 7 November, Piedmont is present with a stand inside the Italian Pavilion of WTM.
The Piedmont area hosts ATLs of the region, private operators and consortia, as well as a space dedicated to the Royal Residences as part of a promotion project led by the City of Turin. In the Piedmont space, meetings with potential investors are held in parallel as well as a series of in-depth meetings to talk about Piedmont as a tourist destination, with particular attention to the Anglo-Saxon market.
Over the last 10 years there has been an increase of approximately 30% in tourists from the United Kingdom, with over 160,000 arrivals and more than 600,000 overnight stays. February is the month with the highest number of overnight stays by English tourists in Piedmont with a share of almost 19% of the annual total. In particular, they prefer the mountains, with over 102 thousand overnight stays confirming the appeal of the ski product and the winter holiday for this market.
The summer period (June, July, August and September) totals over 205 thousand visitors (34% of the annual total). The favorite destination for the summer is the lakes area, with over 109 thousand presences (over 50% of the regional total). The figures for the first quarter of 2024 also confirm a positive trend in terms of British tourist flows, especially towards mountain areas, which saw a 10% increase compared to the same period of the previous year.
