Six cans of Piedboeuf Extra costs 3.95 euros in the Carrefour webshop. For six cans of Jupiler you pay slightly more than double at 7.99 euros. “We want to offer people a beer at a price between the house brands and the classic brands,” says Aron Wils of the AB Inbev brewery at Het Nieuwsblad.
In 1987, the former Artois Brewery and Piedboeuf Brewery merged under the name Belbrew, which later became Interbrew, the predecessor of AB Inbev. They stopped brewing the Piedboeuf pint because Jupiler was much more popular.
Although Piedboeuf’s pint disappeared from the market for fifty years, their table beer remained well-known. The beer with a low alcohol percentage is still a great success. “That market is still very strong. And above all: Piedboeuf is still a very powerful brand,” says Wils.
