There were 482 people in the Mina Raya camp and the rest in the coastal areas of Batee and Muara Tiga subdistricts.
“There are three things to note about the condition of the Rohingya in Pidie, namely the longest, the most numerous and the calmest,” said the Acting Regent of Pidie, Tuesday (2/1/2024).
The Acting Regent of Pidie also said that with the number of Rohingya refugees already so large, the Regency Government under his leadership was refusing the arrival of new Rohingya refugees.
So tightening supervision on the coast involves security forces and other communities, including fishermen.
Apart from that, Rohingya refugees were also exchanged between the coast and Mina Raya Camp.
The children and mothers were centered in the Mina Raya camp while the men were placed at the beachside location.
Furthermore, the Rohingya’s existence remains under public supervision. “Those who wander around are deemed to be thieves and will be arrested,” he said.
In addition, land was rented out at the Rohingya refugee location.
Even though he admits that society is quite tolerant, he is worried that people’s patience could run out if this continues.
According to the Acting Regent, from a number of regions currently the largest number of Rohingya in Pidie is approaching a thousand. Also, it has been a year at the latest and it is reported that they are happy because the attention of the Pidie people is full of tolerance.
Even so, the Pidie Regency government does not want to spend a penny for handling Rohingya refugees in this area.
So that the handling of the Rohingya is completely left to the community in coordination with UNHCR.
