On May 21 and 22, 2022, the fifth edition of Kamo Con takes place at the Parc des Expositions in Dijon. On the program: cosplay, wrestling, the Simpsons and Grominet…

At the fairgrounds, you have to go up two floors. But as soon as they enter, visitors wear their best clothes. Here and there, Naruto chats with Monkey D. Luffy, the hero of One Piece. On the other side, the characters from Death Note roam the halls of the festival, and come across Sangoku from Dragon Ball Z. In Dijon, visitors are already traveling to the land of manga.

For its fifth edition, the Kamo Event association saw things big. Cyrille Alviset, the founder of the show still remembers the beginnings in 2017. “We only had a small space. It’s already at the Parc des Expositions, but year after year, the show has grown. It’s a pride”, he says to me, while strolling in the Parc des Expositions. The festival expects nearly 8,000 people this weekend.

In total, around a hundred exhibitors, both amateurs and professionals, are deployed in this space. Some sell products directly from Asia. Others draw characters from series, anime or video games from the geek and manga universe.

Some booths are dedicated to activities. Shortly after the entrance, passers-by can observe a body painting workshop. An art of patience… Then Aquaman comes to life, little by little.

More classic, this time, video games are scattered throughout the walk. We thus find recent games, but also old consoles and vintage machines.

Several competitions are held in this room. First, a dance competition, on titles of K-Pop and J-Pop (understand, Korean Pop and Japanese pop). But also, a cosplay contest – the cosplayers thus indulge in playing fictional characters, thanks to costumes faithful to the universe of the chosen work. All of them will parade on stage at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

And highlight of the show, the actors dubbing the characters of Homer and Marge Simpson, and that of Grominet and Tigger are in the game. On Sunday, Philippe Peythieu and Véronique Augereau will give a masterclass on the world of The Simpsons, while Patrick Préjean will talk about his career as an actor and the voice of Sylvestre from Looney Tunes. And they won’t be the only ones to meet their fans during a signing session.
