The derby usually lives its own life.
But when Malmö and Rögle met on Thursday, logic won – and Rögle. After all, it was top to bottom.
It could have been worse for the Red Hawks.
Timrå’s loss today means that Malmö is ready for games in the SHL next season. Despite the loss, Malmö still has a reasonable chance of making it to the playoffs. In addition, they get a chance for revenge against Rögle already on Saturday, when the teams meet again in Ängelholm.
The two previous meetings have both ended with odd-numbered victories for Rögle, one full-time and one overtime. Today it was the double goal distance via 1-3.
Adam Tambellini has been injured for a while, but made his second match after that – with goals immediately again. Twice about. That means points in 20 of the last 22 matches for him.
Goalkeeper Calle Clang kept the first zero of the season last. Tonight, he saved 34 of 35 shots and played big.
– In the first period we are a little hesitant, after that we are better and more active and push them down for long periods. But we take unnecessary expulsions and we make it a little too easy for the goalkeeper, who has a clear view. It’s a bit messy and beech out there, a bit of a hassle, as it should be, commented Malmö’s Fredrik Händemark in C More.
– Absolutely fantastic, I’m so damn happy now! A very good match by us. It was nice that we could sort it out at the end, take three points home with us and celebrate with the fans here at the end. We play fantastically well in our own zone, thought Rögle’s goalkeeper Calle Clang after the victory.
