Chances are, starting next week, stores will be allowed to let customers order products online or by phone, which they can then pick up from the store. Insiders in The Hague confirm Monday to NU.nl, in response to reports from The Telegraph, that this plan is being discussed.
According to the sources in The Hague, it is not yet 100 percent certain that the plan will go ahead, but it is certainly on the agenda.
“We are aware of these noises,” said a spokesperson for trade association INretail in response to reports that a relaxation is imminent. “It would be great if it continues.”
The spokesperson for the trade association for retailers is still a bit cautious. “Of course we still have to hear it from Prime Minister Mark Rutte at Tuesday’s press conference.”
According to the trade association, it is safe to organize when working with time slots during which customers can collect their belongings. “We also hope this is a first step towards further easing.”
Retail chains are struggling with the online crowds and carriers such as PostNL have died since the stores closed. Since the lockdown, many retail chains have had their own staff deliver items, such as Blokker, Rituals and ICI Paris.
According to the Dutch Retail Trade Council (RND), click & collect gives retailers a bit of air.
