Pichilemu will experience a surfing-themed party at the end of the “Lobos por Siempre” – 2024-09-05 01:58:09

On Saturday, August 31, the waiting time for the arrival of big, perfect waves in Pichilemu ended. However, a surfing event will be held with the best big wave riders in the country, and even with a couple of high-level foreign guests.

Lobos Por Siempre is not only a world championship of big waves, it is a unique event in Latin America and its purpose goes beyond sport, as it has a fundamental pillar in conservation and sustainability projects that are being developed in the Punta de Lobos Park and our coasts. The area is recognized throughout the world for its waves and in the future it is hoped to transform the city of Pichilemu into a surf city. To this end, volunteers will work for the conservation of the Punta de Lobos Park.

The organization will also hold a “Surftrueque” (Surf Exchange), where athletes will be exchanging boards, suits and exclusive surfing items. A “Surferia” (Surf Fair) will also be held, where local businesses will be able to market and show their products, services and arts to the community.

In addition, Patagonia will have a stand for free repairs of surf suits, to give them a longer useful life and be more sustainable.

With the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, surfing has been reflected and installed in the retina of Chileans, however, the most experienced surfers who travel the world looking for big and perfect waves are always waiting to see how the swells will behave, with Punta de Lobos being a favorite destination.

This year there were several major swells, but unfortunately nature did not send the swell with the conditions to hold the giant wave event and be able to see the impressive images of athletes going down waves that can reach up to 15 meters high, but in any case a closing event will be held with 4 complementary activities.

However, this Saturday there will be an invitational surfing meeting, where mixed teams (men and women) will compete, where professional and master athletes will also be integrated, also incorporating the longboard, which stood out thanks to the pichilemino Rafael Cortés who won a silver medal at the aforementioned Pan American Games last year. Outstanding surfers will participate such as, for example: Ramon Navarro, Jessica Anderson, Cristian Merello, Diego Medina, the 3 Fuenzalida brothers, Katie McConnell (USA), Kohl Christensen (Hawaii), the new promise Dominique Charrier and Reinaldo “Chacha” Ibarra (winner 2023 in Nazaré Portugal for surfing the biggest wave in the world by rowing), among other notables.

The Surferia, a typical Pichilemino event, will be held around sports as part of the Lobos’ commitment to the local culture of Pichilemu, where a space is created to highlight the talent and cultural potential of this community. At the Surferia, local exhibitors will have the opportunity to showcase their environmental conservation projects, local products and artistic creations that reflect the cultural identity of our region. This space not only boosts the local economy, but also strengthens the cultural identity of the commune, fostering an environment of collaboration and community development.

Recreational activities and conversations with environmentalist surfers will be held to raise public awareness about conservation and preservation. “Punta de Lobos is more than just our backyard, for us it is a sacred place and what we are looking for is to establish this model so that it can be replicated throughout the country, so that more beaches and breakers can achieve the sustainable development that we have achieved here,” said Ramón Navarro, a prominent big wave surfer.
