The celebration of National Day continues in Gibraltar. A special day due to the state of negotiations on the future Treaty after Brexit. The Chief Minister of Gibraltar, Fabian Picardo, has taken advantage of his speech to assure that Gibraltarians will never give up their British sovereignty or any part of it.
At no price, for no agreement and for no benefit, Picardo stressed, insisting that his government ‘will not give up a grain of land, a drop of water, or a breath of air’.
The Chief Minister also referred to the letter sent by the British Prime Minister, which states that “the UK Government is committed to working with the current Government of Gibraltar to conclude an agreement with the EU as soon as possible, which will ensure the future prosperity of Gibraltar, while we move forward with contingency planning.

“You have my assurance that this Government will never compromise Gibraltar’s sovereignty,” the letter states, making it clear that “we will never enter into any agreement in which the people of Gibraltar will be placed under the sovereignty of another State against their freely and democratically expressed wishes, nor into any process of sovereignty negotiations with which Gibraltar is not happy.”
To the sounds of Europe’s The Final Countdown, Picardo began his speech to the crowd that packed the Casemates square.
