Mikhail Pletnetov (1958) is called one of the most unusual musicians of today, because his career as a pianist, conductor and composer has been equally successful in his professional life. Listeners and colleagues have always been impressed by Pletnetov’s impeccable technique, sense of fine style and freshness of interpretations.
“Mikhail Pletnetov plays every piece as his own, his interpretations are staggering – I wonder if a pianist could do something like that,” wrote BBC Music Magazine. In 2006, Mihails Pļetņevs won the prestigious “Grammy” award, for which he was nominated several times. He has also received annual awards from Gramophone and The New Yorker – he is currently one of the most influential artists in Russia, but still calls himself simply a musician.
The concert program will feature two of the piano personalities created by last year ‘s anniversary Ludwig van Beethoven (No. 1 and No. 32), as well as Peter Tchaikovsky’ s twelfth piano cycle “Seasons”, in which each part is dedicated to one of the months of the year and its characteristic mood.
“We are infinitely grateful to the Uniting History Foundation, who support cultural events, are loyal friends and supporters of the festival and, well, delight the people of Liepaja with such a gift – a specially organized concert with one of the world’s most outstanding representatives of classical music,” says Zane Čulkstēna, Executive Director of the festival “Riga Jurmala”. “Maestro Pļetņova’s return to Latvia and the festival is a special event, because already in the opening season of the festival two years ago we were able to enjoy his performance and mastery. Glad that the residents of Liepāja will be able to enjoy this opportunity as well!”
In place of the concert of pianist Mikhail Pletnetov, a concert of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra was previously planned, which was canceled last week due to restrictions imposed by Covid-19. Ticket holders who had managed to buy tickets to the orchestra’s concert are invited to return them at any “Biļešu paradīze” box office throughout Latvia or exchange them for Mikhail Pļetņeva’s solo concert tickets. For buyers who have purchased tickets online, the money is automatically returned to the bank account. Concert tickets for the St. Petersburg Orchestra will not be valid for a solo concert by pianist M. Pletnetov. The organizers of the concert apologize to the buyers for the inconvenience and hope for the understanding of the visitors during this unusual time.
Attendance at the concert will be available to individuals who may test negative for Covid-19, have been vaccinated against Covid-19, or have contracted the infection. At the entrance, all visitors from the age of 12 will have to present a Covid-19 certificate corresponding to the security level, as well as an identity document and a concert entrance ticket. In the public area of the concert hall and during the concert, all visitors from the age of 7 must wear a face mask and observe a distance of 2 m. The concert organizers ask to arrive at least an hour before the start of the concert to allow time for document review.
