Düsseldorf / Berlin (MH) – After more than 50 “house concerts” should be over: Igor Levit ends his public livestreams. “I don’t need streams anymore, I’m tired of them,” the pianist explained in Düsseldorf on Tuesday. His last broadcast will be a solo evening on Thursday (May 6th) from the Düsseldorf Tonhalle. “I will certainly still broadcast concerts live from the private setting of my home, but no longer from a concert stage,” he said. During the corona pandemic, he regularly streamed live on Twitter and Instagram.

Levit will be artist in residence in the Tonhalle Düsseldorf in the 2021/22 season. In eight concerts spread over eight months, the pianist can be heard in symphony concerts, chamber music and solo evenings. “Igor Levit fits the Tonhalle like a glove,” explained Artistic Director Michael Becker. “He is a person who communicates incessantly beyond his art and thus moves a lot outside of the music world.”
“With just a few concert halls and locations, I associate so many beautiful things as with the Tonhalle Düsseldorf,” said Levit. “It was here that I was allowed to play my Beethoven cycle for the first time, which was extremely important to me and triggered an enormous amount in my musical career.” During his residence the pianist plays with the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra under Adam Fischer, the Orchester de Paris under Manfred Honeck and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra under Elim Chan. He presents works by Beethoven, Brahms, Bartók, Reger, Gershwin, Shostakovich, Stevenson and Bolcom.
