Luxembourg-born and one of the greatest pianists, composers and techno musicians of this generation, Francesco Tristano, who easily plays with different musical eras, genres and styles, in his electronic live setos synthesizes acoustic piano music and electronics, richly juxtaposing his electronic music creation and the unpredictable toccatas of the early baroque prophet Girolamo Frescobaldi.
Received an excellent education at New York’s Juilliard School (The Juilliard School)Tristano started working with electronic music in parallel with the classical piano school, discovering Detroit techno music, which fits into his own idea of music without barriers of style and time.
Tristano released his first piano and electronic synthesis recordings on an album Not for Piano (2007), where he created the famous Jeff Mills The Bells Un Derika Meja Strings of Life piano versions of techno anthems. Inspiration for Francesco Tristano’s third record Deutsche Grammophon Scandal (2014) with Alice Sara Ott he got from Stravinsky and Derrick May, with whom he collaborated a couple of years later on his techno album Surface Tension (2016). The transgressive, modern sound of the soul gave Tristano the opportunity to work in parallel with electronic dance music projects such as rise and with a German label Get Physical, releasing one of the records of the label’s most famous series Body Language vol 16 (2015).
Tristano’s discography should also highlight the critically acclaimed album Idiosyncrasia (inFine, 2010) recorded Carl Craig’s Planet E-communications in Detroit, where Tristano accomplished a synthesis of digital virtuosity and rare electronic textures that he now calls piano2.0. Also added to it German gramophone issued Bach Cage (2011) produced by Moritz von Oswald, and The Long Walk (Buxehetude/Bach/Tristano) (2012). Tristano as Sony Classics the artist released in September 2017 Piano Circle Songs, which also features Chilly Gonzales.
In his latest and critically acclaimed album Tokyo Stories (2019) the musician pays tribute to Japan and captures the atmosphere and experience gained while getting to know Japanese culture.
Francesco Tristano is one of the most appealing violators of musical boundaries – his reluctance to accept any musical restrictions or limits is reflected in almost every act of the artist. He knows the conventions and compromises that have shaped the style and performance of generations of pianists, and has chosen to distance himself from any prejudices in music.
Francesco Tristano’s performance in Riga will take place on August 4 at the annual electronic dance music event The Room Live. The project started in 2013 as a closed dance event TheRoom to the magazine’s readers and members, and over the years, with its growing popularity, has become a much-anticipated musical cultural event for many residents of Riga.
Traditionally TheRoom Live is announced only once a year at a secret venue. Every year a new location is chosen: a loft with a cozy roof terrace, a gallery somewhere in the center of Riga, a museum, a theater or a private house with a garden. Yearly TheRoom Live world-renowned electronic dance music artists perform, and the project is called one of the most original electronic music events in the Baltic region. in November 2019 TheRoom Live the project represented Latvia at the European Music Night in Berlin, alongside the leading clubs of the other 26 European countries.
On August 4 of this year in Riga TheRoom Live will take place for the eleventh time. By tradition TheRoom the location will be announced on the afternoon of Friday, August 4.
