Piaggio increases revenues and profits thanks to the increase in sales

The Piaggio group achieved sales of 536,000 vehicles in 2021, with an 11% growth compared to the previous year, and revenues of over one billion euros (to be precise, 1,668.7 million euros). All the various sales areas, which correspond to the different continents, show quite sustained growth, in particular Europe and the Americas (+ 32.9%), and also Asia Pacific (+ 33.4%).

India, still stranded by the pandemic effects, records a turnover that remains stable. As regards two-wheelers, a total of 449,700 vehicles were sold, with an increase of 16.9% compared to the 384,700 at 31 December 2020, equal to a net turnover of 1,369 million euros (+ 31.5% compared to 1,040, 9 million euros at 31 December 2020).

Sales increase for Piaggio all over the world

During the past year, the sales of Piaggio scooters and motorcycles recorded an upward trend in all the selling areas in which the Italian brand operates. Especially in India, where + 36.4% stands out, while in Asia Pacific sales volumes hit + 26.1%. In the Emea Americas market an increase of 8.1% was recorded, mainly resulting from US (+ 50.6%) and Italian (+ 18.8%) sales. On the European continent, Piaggio confirms its leadership in the scooter segment thanks to a market share of 22.7%, also strengthening its positioning in the USA and Canada, reaching a share of 35%.

Furthermore, on the American continent, Piaggio is active in consolidating its presence on the motorcycle segment through the Moto Guzzi brands and Aprilia.

With regard to scooters, therefore, the sector has reported a very high increase in world sales, driven by the Vespa brand which reaches a growth of 26% compared to 2020, by the Piaggio Beverly and Piaggio Liberty high-wheel scooters and by the models produced by the Aprilia brand. Secondly, the motorcycle sector experienced a positive trend, and both Aprilia and Moto Guzzi productions ended 2021 with the highest revenue ever. We can speak of a very high appreciation of the various world markets for the Aprilia RS and Aprilia Tuono with 660 cc engines, and for the Moto Guzzi V7 and V85TT.

We recall that Piaggio is a totally Italian company founded in 1884 and controlled by the Colaninno family, with its main office in Mantua. In addition to the Piaggio brand, the Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and Derbi brands are also used in its production of scooters, motorcycles and mopeds.

The company, world famous for the iconic Ciao and Vespa they have characterized the economic boom of our country after World War II, it currently has 8 industrial centers divided as follows: four in Italy, one in India, one in Vietnam, one in China, one in Boston (United States) and a new plant under construction in Indonesia.

It also has four research and development centers that carry one of the symbols of Made in Italy around the world: in Pontedera, in Noale – home of the Aprilia Racing Team – the Piaggio Group Advanced Design Center in Pasadena, California and the Piaggio Fast Forward (PFF) in Boston.

Piaggio is also active in the electricity market: in July 2021 the company presented a new e innovative electric scooter, Piaggio 1characterized by removable and rechargeable batteries conveniently with the household electricity line.
