In 2020 and 2021, the government will pay 100% of the “prosumer tariff” instead of the holders of photovoltaic panels. Then a little more than 50% during the following two years, to encourage self-consumption. The installation of a smart meter will also be covered by the regional budget.

THEis a little hard to believe, yet it’s true: the endless saga of the prosumer tariff, marked by countless twists and turns, seems indeed about to end. The Walloon government approved this Thursday a text presented by the Minister of Energy, Philippe Henry (Ecolo), which sets up so-called “support” measures for Walloon owners of photovoltaic panels (or “prosumers”). In practice, the aim is to compensate for the entry into force of the latter’s contribution to the costs of managing the electricity distribution network (which they are partially exempt from so far).
