Two students were visiting a wildlife refuge in North Carolina (USA) last Sunday, when they came across a black bear standing on its hind legs that was maintaining a pose strangely similar to that of a human.
Erin McAllister and her boyfriend Zachary Allen were driving down a road at the shelter when they spotted the animal, whose photos Allen later posted on Facebook. “To be honest, when we both saw it for the first time, we weren’t even sure it was real! It was standing so still and stoically,” McAllister relates to Newsweek.

After holding the pose for about ten minutes, the animal spotted a group of three similarly sized black bears nearby and ran into the forest to meet them. “We like to interpret this whole experience as a standing bear looking for its friends,” says McAllister.
