Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood has reposted a photo of two teenagers arrested for threatening to shoot up Taylor High School in the county.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 17-year-old girl and a 16-year-old boy on Wednesday for alleged threats they made via the social network Snapchat.
According to authorities, the student wrote, “I’m going to shoot up the school” with her school laptop in the background. The other student replied, “Same thing.”
“Here are the last two Volusia County Schools students who thought a school shooting threat would be fun,” the sheriff said. He had already posted a photo of a juvenile who had made the same threat in recent days and has said on several occasions that he will publish the faces and names of young people who make such threats.
“This followed the school issuing a lengthy announcement to the entire student body with our warning that all threats are taken seriously and that these ‘pranks’ are not only unacceptable, but can lead to expulsion and arrest,” the sheriff detailed.
He also commented that “we are wasting time and resources on this garbage that disrupts our schools and lives. It is not fair to the 99% of children who are doing the right thing. I need parents to talk to their children and help them understand that these ‘pranks’ are the dumbest way to end up locked up for a serious crime.”
