Like nothing ever happened. Or almost. At a time when several countries like France are getting back under cover, New York is reopening its bars and restaurants. The “city that never sleeps” regains its nickname, although some restrictions remain in establishments.

Bars, restaurants and cinemas have been welcoming the public indoors since February 19, with a limit of 25%. It rose to 50% this Friday, and compliance with sanitary measures is maintained. The curfew begins at 11 p.m. The rules will gradually lighten: Monday, the 500 high schools in the city will reopen, the students having been in distance education for a year.

The most bereaved city in the country
Restaurants in New York were first forced to close in March 2020, the city being hit hard by the Covid-19 epidemic. They had been allowed to reopen in September with restricted capacity, before being forced to close again in December, after a spike in the number of cases, following the Thanksgiving holiday.

The return to normal will continue over the weeks, with several measures lifted. Thus, on April 1, the quarantine imposed on travelers from States not bordering New York ended. The measure was imposed in June 2020 by the governor of the state, Andrew Cuomo.
