With the arrival of the new attraction Danse Macabre, Efteling also introduces a new member of the Gijs family. Work is currently underway on a brand new Holle Bolle Gijs on Abdijplein. The shape of the wolverine is already recognizable. Decorators and painters will bring the paper eater to life in the coming days.
The as yet unnamed Efteling resident appears at Matroos Gijs’s old place. It had a nautical theme, given its location near the now-disappeared Boating Pond. Above the sailor hung a sign with a sailing ship. That decor element recently appeared at In den Swarte Kat, the grocery store at Danse Macabre.
For the successor, designer Jeroen Verheij came up with a new character, in line with the adjacent medieval abbey. There are currently no concrete plans to give Matroos Gijs a place elsewhere in the park. For the time being, he spends his days in the Efteling archives.
