[PHOTOS] A man keeps Quebec police on suspense for 9 hours

A man in distress held Quebec police officers in suspense for nearly 9 hours of time, Sunday evening, in the Charlesbourg sector, while he had barricaded himself inside his residence.

The facts began shortly after 6 p.m., when a call was made to 911, for a man who threatened to take his own life on the rue de Chamonix, in the Charlesbourg area.

According to the Quebec City Police Department, the man also threatened to kill two other people who were in his company.

A perimeter was quickly established with the collaboration of a dog handler. Several residents were evacuated as a safety measure and welcomed aboard a bus from the Réseau de transport de la Capitale.

The police tried at length to obtain the cooperation of the man who, however, refused to surrender at length.

At around 3.35 a.m., the 54-year-old man was checked by the intervention tactical group. He was arrested for death threats. He was taken to the detention center where he will be met by investigators from the SPVQ’s major crimes unit. He will appear this Monday at the Quebec City courthouse.
