Photography, the international in Trani from October 4th with over 180 images to tell “Imperfect Futures” between sustainable development and social innovation

The themes and the artists. At the heart of the exhibitions on display is the environment and the human activities that contribute to changing it, generating not only an environmental but also a social impact. Simone Tramonte will deal with renewable energy and new technologies. At the heart of the research of Diambra Mariani, instead, the repopulation of some uninhabited areas of Spain. The phenomenon of transmigration will be discussed in the photography of Olgaç Bozalp, while Gaia Squarci with his project he will address the way in which people, in relation to their socio-economic status, adapt to rising temperatures.

The environmental effects of individualism. An investigation into the environmental effects of individualism will be the focus of Kata Geibl’s first monograph. Natacha de Mahieu will bring to Radar a reflection on the “new tourism”. More climate change with Alessandro Cinque That will take us to Peruvian communities to see the effects this has on one of the most widespread activities, alpaca breeding. Stefano Schirato, instead, will present his photographic investigation on the environmental disasters that have marked the history of our country. Finally, the photos of Piero Percoco will be a tribute to the lands of the Boccadoro-Ariscianne Ecomuseum.

Zero impact festival. Today, Italy is the worst in Europe in the collection of electronic material, which includes photographic equipment. Our country collects just over 30% of WEEE against an EU average of over 60%. The festival will be an opportunity to reflect on the environmental impact of photography itself and promote more responsible behavior. The fourth edition of the Radar Photo Festival, in fact, is completely green for the aspects related to the use and display methods of the exhibitions, starting from the installations that will be created only through eco-design elements using already existing materials and therefore favoring circular economy practices, promoting the use of paper with plantable seeds, the use of EU certified products for the environment.

The space ecommerce. In this spirit, Radar festival will also promote a new platform of ecommerce where it will be possible to exchange used equipment and promote circular economy practices for those working in the sector, creating an approach to the profession of photographer that also takes into account the environmental costs of its impact.

Not just exhibitions. Radar it is also workshops, meetings and photographic publishing and networking and circular economy initiatives. In this sense, it is worth mentioning a series of educational workshops on environmental themes aimed at children and young people in collaboration with schools and Legambiente, some of which will take place at the Ecomuseum Boccadoro-Ariscianne, a recovered place and an area particularly important for the flora and fauna present there and that the festival has included in the activities precisely to contribute to its recovery, also through an artist residency.

Open call for emerging artists. The call is also open for photographers who have a project in line with the themes of the festival, which this year range from ecology to social innovation, from sustainable development, from the valorization of the territory to activism. The artists will be evaluated by a commission of top photography experts.
