“This is quite exceptional,” says Vanfleteren. “I feel enormously honoured. The university is such a wonderful institution, which is very important in our society, because that’s where the thinkers, scientists, philosophers work. The photographers now also belong to it.”
“As with other artists and scientists, as a photographer you have to keep looking and then hope that with luck, with your wits, your effort and your talent you discover something that is valuable. That can be a wonderful invention or a beautiful photograph.”
As a thank you for his honorary doctorate, Stephan Vanfleteren hid a photo in Ostend last night. He doesn’t want to give any tips on how to find him yet. “You don’t have to find everything right away. Patience is something we don’t know anymore.”
