OSTRAVA – He would have celebrated his fortieth birthday this year if he had not voluntarily ended his life on the morning of March 13. Radim Dibdiak will not add another picture to the series of his vision of the world.
He was born in Kyjov, where he spent his childhood and where, as he recalled, he met Miroslav Tichy. The eccentric character of the outsider artist somewhat foreshadowed his own future. He associated most of his life with Brno, where he became a characteristic part and documentary filmmaker of the cafe scene. He was able to capture timeless moments with which he delighted acquaintances and friends, when he tagged them on Facebook.
With a camera in his hand at his waist, he casually took pictures while talking. He clicked once, twice at the most, kept a constant overview of the situation and had a sense of capturing scenes that could not possibly be planned in advance. He then edited the photos digitally, moved them into his own reality, and added his unmistakable handwriting to them. In addition to street photography, he gained fans with studio work with models, photographed events and concerts, and enjoyed searching for the authenticity of his friends’ children.
He spent some time in London, moved to Prague before the pandemic, but always returned to Brno in the end. This played a key role in his work, he said that he had photographed them all, but some of them were found on lost and stolen laptops. He presented around twenty solo exhibitions here, most of them in his most popular legendary café Švanda, which also no longer exists. TIC Brno called him a Brno phenomenon, he published a photo series about events in the city in Brno, and miniatures of his photographs were sold in the Artmat art vending machine.

He moved to Ostrava in February and this time he will not return. May the earth be easy for him.
