The residence was in use for more than 200 years, before being destroyed by an earthquake.

Archaeologists discovered in Turkey a 1,500-year-old house that features several well-preserved decorations, informs the local press. The find was made where the ancient city of Sardes was located, in the current province of Manisa.

Investigators believe the house belonged to an important family linked to the military. In the remains of the house were found five long swords or ‘spathas’, which were used in the territory of the Roman Empire, buckles with typical designs of the military, and a lead seal.

Another unexpected find was the tracks of dogs and a goat on the ground. The animals probably walked on the tiles before the material was thrown into the fire and then placed on the ground. In addition, a drawing of a chicken or a duck, made with fingers, was found.

The house was used for more than 200 years, before being destroyed by an earthquake in the early 7th century, according to LiveScience.
