The concert took place in the Great Hall of the Great Guild. As previously reported, a multimedia exhibition of Margarita Vilcāne’s stage costumes was opened right there in the Grand Guild, marking the unique place of fashion in the field of pop in the second half of the 20th century. Costume designer – Ārija Punenova. The exhibition will be open from January 29 to February 26.
In the anniversary concert of Margarita Vilcāne, the audience was delighted by Normunds Rutulis, Intars Busulis, Daumants Kalniņš, the choir Anima, an instrumental group led by Kristaps Krievkalns and, of course, the jubilee herself. Along with Margarita Vilcāne, special guests also performed – fashion artist Asnāte Smeltere and maestro Raimonds Pauls. The concert took place as a conversation between the anniversary and other artists, in which such popular songs as “About the Last Page”, “Stay and Don’t Go”, “White Sun” and others were intertwined.

According to the concert organizers, Vilcāne is a stage icon of his time, which did not leave anyone indifferent. She has gained recognition from people in Latvia and abroad for her outstanding vocal talent and gorgeous stage costumes. From the end of the 1960s, Ārija Punenova, the singer’s best friend and artist and model of the Riga Model House, was responsible for every Margarita costume modeled and made. The two artists met during the 1967 EXPO in Montreal, where Margarita performed as a singer and Aria as a model. In total, 24 stage costumes are on display at the exhibition.
Margarita Vilcāne The round anniversary was celebrated in 2020, but now it was possible to celebrate the birthday in person. We remind you that at the end of 2020, the biographical book “Blinking My Margarita” (“Latvian Media”) about Margarita Vilcana was published by musicologist Daiga Mazvērsīte.
