On Saturday, July 17, the South Kurzeme festival “Rimbenieks” continued with two concerts both at the St. Lawrence Church in Vecpils and in the courtyard of Dižlāņi manor, but on Sunday, July 18, in the apple orchard of Aizpute Castle.

We remind you that the new festival organized by the Liepaja Symphony Orchestra invites you to experience summer evenings in the sounds of music in various picturesque places of the region. The concerts of the festival will take place in Priekule, Grieze, Grobiņa, as well as in Liepāja until August 20.

The ensemble of wind instruments “Libava Brass Quintet” performed at the Vecpils Church with a program from Baroque to the music of our time, including more exotic sounds. Nearby – in Dižlāņi manor you could enjoy the music of Mozart and Haydn performed by Liepāja String Quartet. In Aizpute, on the other hand, people could enjoy the game of the wooden wind instrument ensemble “Kurland Quintet”. The program included Mozart and Strauss, Iber and Farcash, and music by more recent composers.

Also this weekend, the South Kurzeme festival will continue with concerts in the region. The Libava Brass Quintet will perform in the park of Priekule Culture House on Friday, July 23, at 8 pm, and on October 25 at 8 pm the Kurland Quintet will also perform in the atmosphere of the walls of Grieze Church. On July 31, the festival will start in Liepaja. Rock music will return to the concert hall “Lielais dzintars”, which will be complemented by a symphony sound. Jeronims Milius, Atis Ieviņš and Andris Ērglis will sing. The accompanying group will also include percussionist Artis Orubs and guitarist Johnny Salamander.

The new South Kurzeme festival bears the name of Evaldas Rimbeniekis. This man, who was taken not only to Aizpute and Liepāja by the fate of the peasant house in Gramzda Parish, Priekule District, but also to the duties of the Government of Kārlis Ulmanis, has been the mayor of Liepāja years, as well as the renovator of the Liepaja Philharmonic.

The festival invites you to travel around South Kurzeme, discovering its cultural and historical heritage, natural splendor and human hospitality, meeting in summer concerts and enjoying the passionate play of Liepaja musicians. Evaldas Rimbeniekis’ dream of a developed high cultural society is still alive, it will be carried forward by the South Kurzeme festival “Rimbenieks”.
